Waiting for Brenda is the originals band of singer/songwriter Brenda Lee Kelly. Brenda has performed in various Americana/Bluegrass/Alt-Country bands but this is her first all originals band and album release.
She has brought together friends to perform with her playing dobro/fiddle/harmonica/guitar/bass and drums whilst she leads the songs on vocals and acoustic guitar. Brenda writes songs of love, despair, heart-ache, hope, healing and humour bringing together
countrified indie folk with tons of heart, soul & swagger.
Brenda melodically crafts songs about love gone wrong and right, stories of places travelled and the journey of life, delving into the realm of stream of consciousness yet still bringing meaning and stories to life to tell the tale, whilst not forgetting to not take it all too seriously. Deep rooted in the Alt Country/Folk sound yet still not beholden to any particular genre if the song calls for something different.
Waiting for Brenda joins together twangy guitar, lap-steel, fiddle, drums and bass with tons of heart, soul & swagger. Brenda Lee Kelly on vocals & acoustic guitar, Garry Gman Bain on Electric Guitar, Peter "I've got a Fender" Cheney on bass, John (Johnno) "he's not evil" Harrison on dobro/lap-steel guitar & harmonica, Luke Mysliwy on fiddle & Craig (Billy) Tobin on the skins. Guest band members Glenn Kidd (Harmonica) and Marty Leonard (Bass) also sometimes play with the band. All members bringing a bucket of talent, joy, swagger and stomp to the originals project. With a huge back log of musical collaborations between them from country, bluegrass to irish punk and 80’s covers, yet still keen to express something new in these songs.

Waiting For Brenda, “Friendly Disposition” Album Release
Brenda Lee Kelly is no stranger to songwriting or performing. She’s been playing her own brand of country folk mixed with a smattering of indie attitude for over three decades now. You may have seen or heard her in her other projects KiddnKelly Gang, Scarlett Road or Wayward Angels. Regardless of the vehicle, over the years one thing has remained consistent in Brenda’s music, it’s about the stories, the people, places one remembers from a lifetime of journeys, family and friends.
In what started out as a tribute show to Billy Bragg, who’s own Australian shows were continuingly delayed due to the pandemic, Brenda assembled a core group of musicians to rehearse Billy’s music for a yet to be determined show. When the opportunity to play a set of her own music at the Neurum Creek Folk Festival in late 2021 presented itself, Brenda and her bandmates turned the rehearsals to her own original songs. Rather than calling her originals project “Brenda Lee Kelly”, she had already been thinking about starting an originals band with the moniker of “Waiting for Brenda”, so now was the time.
The album “Friendly Disposition” curates 11 original songs, covering a range of musical terrain, from country and folk, to alt-country and indie rock. Electric and acoustic guitars, drums, electric and acoustic bass, violin, dobro and lap steel feature throughout, along with Brenda’s own haunting, yet melodic, alt-country vocals. Hers is a friendly though blended disposition (pun intended) of voices – that gal next door mixed with a touch of Lorretta and Patsy.
